As we all know college farewell parties are meant to unite, introspect, and ultimately to celebrate. This is the day for most of us to glam up at least once in our lives in gorgeous attires no matter what our culture, tradition, and lifestyle are. When coming to the Indian context, sarees make your day! In almost all parts of India, saree is the dress code for our college farewell day. I think there is no such attire that can flatter an Indian figure as a saree can do.
For all desi and non-desi fashion lovers out there, here I am giving a brief guide on how to look stunning in a saree.
As a keynote, there are certain things to stick to before choosing the right sari.
- Select the fabric according to your comfort and convenience. It’s more desirable to opt the material according to the season even though farewell parties usually fall during summers. Fabrics such as cotton, linen, silk, velvet, or their blends are thoroughly preferred.
- Choose the right drape style based on your body shape and type of fabric you pick out.
- Like the right drape, get the blouse stitched especially the sleeves and neckline as per its fabric and embroidery work.
- The color of the petticoat or the underskirt should complement the sari.
- Try not to over-accessorize especially while wearing a heavy bling kind of sari.
1. Rock in plain fabric with catchy embellished border
Simple plain sarees with catchy embellishments on the border have always been in trend then and now. Border designs such as silver or gold zari or zardosi work, bead and pearl embellishments, chikankari work, mirror and kutch embroidery attached to a plain cotton, linen, georgette or chiffon sarees will make you stand out. Never forget to add a pair of charming earrings to stay stylish.2. Get organized in Organza
Go for organza sarees due to their light-weight and higher breathability. Organza is a plain weave thin sheer fabric made from silk. It’s more beautiful to wear organza sarees leaving the pallu open rather than making pleats. You can achieve a traditional as well as a modern sophisticated silhouette by the type of jewelry you pick.
3. Flaunt in prints
Printed sarees are available in plenty of options such as in floral prints, geometric prints, kalamkari, ikkat prints, paisely prints and the list is quite endless. The fabric and color composition you choose for printed sarees makes it more elegant as kalamkari pattern looks great on cotton and linen textiles. They make you look effortlessly graceful and gorgeous on any occasion. Team up some ethnic pieces of jewelry to add a splash of brightness.
4. Mesmerize yourself with net drape
Many people including celebrities and brides in India have started embracing tulle net and lace sarees so much. I highly suggest you pair a blouse fabric with a lustrous finish if it’s not the same material to match with the net sari correctly. These sarees bring out an undistinguished dose of opulence and elegance to you to shine at the party. Pick the accessories wisely and try to keep it as minimal as possible not to ruin the look.
5. Playing with ruffles
Well, I think many
of you might have noticed that sarees or blouses with frills or ruffles are
becoming in vogue nowadays. They create an enticing and youthful look
right away when teamed up with some winning accessories. Ruffle sarees and blouses look good on all body types as the touch of drama it adds takes away the attention from your curves or other fatty or skinny areas.
6. Contrasting saree and blouse
Dressing up is all about experimenting and the most interesting part is playing with colors and patterns. Being a woman, I always have loved and would love to mix and match colors and fabrics. Thus anyone with a good color sense can do it. As always, in contrast, also, you should take into consideration the type of fabric of saree and blouse such that they must complement each other.
Yeah , come on let’s go party !
